I watched one of my favorite movies last night. One that never fails to inspire me. RUDY. A movie about a young man who had a dream of being a football player at Notre Dame even though he was short, weighed a little over 100 pounds and had limited athletic ability.
It’s based on a true story. If you haven’t seen it, or if you haven’t seen it in years-like me- then I very much reccomend watching it again.
Rudy doesn’t quit.
He doesn’t take no for an answer.
He doesn’t sit around, waiting for the Law of Attraction to bring him what he wants. He asks for what he wants. He takes the risk of people telling him no and if he doesn’t get the answer he wants- he asks again and again until the answer changes.
Rudy is persistent. He hangs on to his dream like a dog with a great bone. And he doesn’t let anyone take it away from him either. When they try, he just walks away. As persistent and devoted as ever.
He asks himself one question over and over throughout the entire movie, every time things are going his way. “Have I done everything I possibly can? Is there something more I can do?” And he always finds one more thing he can try.
If you want to watch a winner in action, take a few tips from him.
MAKE your life happen. The one in your vision. You can if you want to bad enough. You just have to decide that failing at it isn’t an option and find a way to get around the obstacles.
“I am where I am today because I believe in possibilities.”
~Whoopi Goldberg
Rudy isn’t any different then you and me. He just belived that anything was possible. There are always obstacles for everyone and everything. There are always ways around them. Watch the movie and see what I mean. Believe in the possibilities and not the problems. and watch your life change.
What movies inspire you? What movies that you love inspire you to reach out and grab the golden ring of life? I’d love to know! Maybe we can start an inspired movie list!

Rudy sounds like a fabulous movie, very inspiring. I recently watched August Rush. I loved the magical realism and the theme of how talents need to be shared.

Wendi,
I haven’t seen Rudy. I might just put that on my weekend to-do list. It sounds like a nice rah-rah movie.
Ones that inspire me: Christmas stock like Miracle on 34th Street, The Bishop’s Wife, It’s a Wonderful Life. I can pull out those movies, with their simple belief in the goodness of people, any day of the year and get a jolt of inspiration.
Non-Christmas… Postcards From the Edge works—”woman comes out of crap okay” is an awesome message to me; Schindler’s List puts your priorities in order right away, as does Life Is Beautiful; and my all-time favorite inspiration is Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
Regards,
Kelly

Hi Wendi,
“Rudy” is a favorite at our house – everyone loves this one! His spirit of never giving up is very inspirational, and that it’s a true story makes it an even greater one to watch.
A couple that I think are inspirational: “The Rookie” – all about it never being too late to go after your dreams. “Remember the Titans” – about bringing unity to a community, and bridging racial barriers of the time. “Forrest Gump” – here’s another guy who just doesn’t give up on life, and really sees the good in all. And lastly, I’ll copy Kelly and go with “It’s a Wonderful Life” – a classic about how much we probably don’t realize we impact this world we live in…
I’m inspired just thinking about these!

I love Rudy – I cry every time! I haven’t watched it in quite some time…perhaps it’s time to take it out!
Recently I saw Slumdog Millionaire and Milk. Both truly inspiring stories, in very different ways. Harvey Milk was a gay rights activist in the70s who made an enormous impact on the gay community. Sadly he was assassinated for his efforts. But time and time again he never gave up – he fought, literally until the day he died. I asked myself the question “How badly are you willing to fight for what you believe?” For me, anyway the message was very powerful.

Jewel,
August Rush was a GREAT movie! Hmmm, now I want to rent it again! What a great message about faith and using our gifts.
Kelly,
You should watch it if you have never seen it. The first time I watched it was years agon and it was assigned to me by my coach. The messages are wonderful. I don’t know if it is Ra- Ra movie as much as it is inspiring because he is SO normal.
Lance,
We love the Rookie here, but I don’t think I have seen Remember the Titons. I’ll have to check that one out. HAve you seen “We ARE MARSHAL? Another good sports one.

Stacey,
I have never heard of that one. I am putting it on my list. That is a powerful lesson. How much do you want it and what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your goals?

Transamerica was oddly inspiring. It was so much more than I thought it was going to be.

I like classics. Don’t get me started on films… in fact I posted about Sundance monday… great minds ……
I wanted to wish you a Happy New year, Wendi.

The geek in me has to say my very favourite movies ever (though I truly dearly love many) are the LOTR ones. They inspire me on so many different levels. Tolkien inspires me with his text, e.g., “…But that’s not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” There’s so much wisdom in Tolkien, and his deep love and understanding of words inspires me to pay attention.
Hobbits inspire me with their littleness, their seeming insignificance, while proving the most brave (“Even the smallest person can change the course of the world.”). Peter Jackson inspires me with his landscape, his attention to detail, his use of light and dark (literally and characteristically and scenically), everything he and his teams poured into the films to make them as close to masterpieces as Tolkien’s work. Even the special features have so much effort in them that they make wonderful documentaries.
And Howard Shore’s music for the films inspires me to write, to sing, to soar, to really feel, and to relax and just listen.
