For several months now, I have had a recurring dream.
In the dream, I live in a world where there is no word for this emotion that we on earth call LOVE. In this alternate universe of my dreamscape, it is impossible to go up to someone and say, “I love you.”
The word doesn’t exist.
You can only show them. Love there is an action. It is something you do to them, for them. It is an expression of your heart.
It could be a touch. A caress. Pulling out their chair with a soft lingering smile.
You could give them your time, your attention, your affection. You could deeply listen to their stories. Share a heart-felt hug. But the word….the word..alone and meaninglessly tossed into the air like confetti or autumn leaves left to be trampled and raked away…
No. There is no word for that in this alternate universe.
In this dream world, their “yes” lingers longer in their eyes and lights up until you can feel the love radiating. Smiles connect with other smiles, catch and burst into joyful celebrations. Their hearts are fuller, their spirits lighter. Their connections deeper, time slower.
A single hand, gently touching a shoulder, conveys so much gratitude, sharing and value that it takes my dreamland breath away.
The air vibrates with love, profound love. A love unspoken, yet a love undoubted.
They are present with each other. They value each other, heart, spirit, soul.
Wordlessly, they give all that they have to each other with their actions, their listening…their being.
Their self-demeanor is gentle, enthusiastic, joyful.
They are happy. With themselves, and with each other.
They do love. They be love. They are love.
I can’t say for sure…but I think I might be dreaming about heaven.
Can you imagine what it would be like if we started treating each other like that down here?
Wendi, yes, I do believe what you described in your dream is what heaven must be like. I recently read the book “Proof of Heaven” by Eben Alexander, M.D. I discovered it through Oprah’s “Super Bowl Sunday” (another inspiring link you turned me on to) and it was amazing! In it, he describes how he had a rare disease that left him in a coma and his journey and experience of heaven for a week. Being that he is a neurosurgeon and had been taught to believe in the science and medical point of view of what people go through with Near Death Experiences, he was skeptical about if Heaven really existed and thought that what people were describing wasn’t heaven but a fantasy until he , himself was there. It gave me so much hope and inspiration and deepened my faith that there IS a God and there is a Heaven and it is pure love. Wonderful read! I can only imagine what this world would be like if we all treated one another with love and understanding. What a wonderful world it would be!!!
Kari,
A long time ago, I had a dream- or a visit, it was so real, that Grandma G, came to me, took my hand and gave me a tour of Heaven. We walked and walked all over this place so indescribable, and as much as it was beautiful, it was the ABSOLUTE ASSURANCE of unconditional pure love that vibrated, literally hummed through everything, that was so amazing. She wanted me to understand that there was nothing, absolutely nothing we had to do to earn God’s love or our ticket to heaven, that we were perfect to Him, just the way He made us, and all we were called to do was to love each other the way he loves us.
It was really that simple.
And that hard.
I’ve never ever forgotten what Heaven felt like. And I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I am going back there someday.
Goosebumps………
Beautiful Wendi! I love your dreamland. If every day, every one of us gave just a little bit of that kind of love, this world would be a truly magical place. Such a lovely reminder.
What a warm reminder Wendi for us all to “do” and “be” love vs just speaking it. It’s a beautiful message for this time of year. I’m going to think about how I can “be” love more often and it starts with making artichoke dip to take to party I’m going to now upstairs.
This is so beautiful, thank you for sharing! “The air vibrates with love, profound love. A love unspoken, yet a love undoubted.” Can you imagine if we created that here on earth? It is not that outlandish to think we can, one person, one relationship at a time. Count me in, anyone else?
