How to Live a Great Life

By Wendi Kelly 6 Comments

Everyone needs a mentor. Throughout our lives, mentors come and go, slipping in an out, playing large or small parts. They are our parents, our coaches, that one teacher that took the time to care. They are the inspirational speaker who’s books and seminars speak to our hearts and change our lives.

During my teens, I went through a stormy period of troubled behavior and wayward self- absorbed, self-pitied behaviors. It has been said that you could see me coming or going by the size of the chip on my shoulder. Then I came across the writings of a laid back simple man named Jim Rohn. Jim’s unassuming gentle approach to how to live a good life broke through to a troubled young girl and started to turn her around on the road to recovery.

I began to open my eyes to more great thinkers, including one of Jim’s favorite’s- the bible-and have enjoyed a long journey now of decades of listening, reading and sharing words from many of the great motivators of our time. But for me, Jim Rohn was the first. Several years ago, it was my great honor to watch Jim speak in person and it was one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Jim’s legacy is a powerful reminder of what it takes to live a great life..

He reminds us that our words do matter. Our words have the power and the magic to change lives. Let’s be careful with them. Shall we?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLc6XzimaDEIf I can share Jim with even one person who can carry him in their heart as I have…it will be my honor to inspire you with his words…

On how to live a good life from the Master Himself.

Enjoy.

    Wendi,
What a great message to be reminded of – that our words matter. And that it is up to us as to what words we put out there. We can choose to do hurt, or to bring good, with our words. And they all matter. I choose good.

And I also had the opportunity to hear Jim Rohn speak a few years ago – a very moving experience to be able to personally hear his words!

He has left the world a better place…

Lance I couldn’t agree more. I choose…to the best of my ability to make my words count to improve lives. Words are swords or healing balm. I hope I use my words to heal.

Have a wonderful holiday Lance, Thanks for coming by!

Wendi, I had the chance to meet Jim Rohn early in my sales career. He truly lived up to his words. I was sorry to hear of his passing but as you said, have no doubt that he is enjoying a great reward. Your post reminded me of the impact of our words and actions on others. We may never know how we have affected another life, all the more reason to be respectful and honorable in word and deed.

    Karen,

Wasn’t he wonderful? I left that conference knowing my life had changed for good. And not once on that stand was he pumping the sunshine either. He was all real all the time.

It’s hard staying out of the mud puddles life rains down on us. But its worth when we can. We can be a gift to the world just like he was.

Hi Wendi – It’s wonderful how other people’s words help and motivate us so much. And you, Karen and Lance were so lucky to meet Jim Rohn in person.

I think my turning point was Napoleon Hill. His book just jumped out at my one day – don’t know why – the title and the cover didn’t even appeal. But it felt like I was meant to read it.

I have been slower getting round to the Bible than you, but my friend Laurie Boone Henry recommended an easier to understand one this year and it really makes a difference.

Great post, and an important reminder about the power of our words. I believe that we need to choose our words carefully, both in our interactions with others, and our self talk. What we think, we become..
