Who is more qualified to lead your life besides you?
The answer may seem so obvious, that you may wonder why I ask.
Why YOU…of course.
But hold on just a second. Let me ask another question. Who IS leading your life? Who is driving your daily decisions, who do you turn to before making your final choices, who do you trust to tell you if you should say yes-or no- to the important choices in your life?
If the answer is, “Why, my own intuition and carefully gathered facts, and the consult of a few wise people I trust…” Good for you. Gold Star.
But for most of us, is that really the truth?
Or is it more like we don’t make a decision until we have polled the mother, the husband, the sister, the friend, the boss, the Facebook community, the TV commercials, the magazines, the neighborhoods and anyone else we can think of?
How do we decide what to wear?
How do we decide what is correct to say?
How do we decide what is a good book?
What movie to watch? What to believe? Who to vote for? What to think? What we feel? Who we even are?
Validation, acceptance, approval, friendship, popularity, having a great job, taking care of our family, putting others first, looking “good”…whatever that even means… all come before what we REALLY feel and think.
And after awhile—we might not even remember what we feel—or used to feel anymore. That Person is such a stranger that we don’t even ask what they want or think. That Person’s opinion stopped mattering a long time ago.
There is a lot of talk about “Living our authentic life.” “Finding our inner spirit” “Seeking our passion.” There is nothing wrong with that. I celebrate that. I honor that, encourage it and beat that drum here at Life’s Little Inspirations week after week after week.
But then sadly, I see the same people who seek those things so desperately turn around time and time again and hand over the power of their life choices to someone— and often multiple people—over and over again.
You were destined to lead your own life. You were created to make your own choices, follow your own compass, listen to your own inner whisper, your own silent majority of ONE that will not ever lead you astray.
YOU know what fashion stirs your heart. YOU know what song, what story, what art warms your blood, even if not a single friend or family member gives a damn at all. You know what passion and dreams and vision spark your path and must lead you to be the person you were born to be. Who is that person? Trust in YOU. Be bold enough to listen to your heart. It’s talking. Trust it.
Let it lead you to your destiny.
